A Game of Two Halves

The battle for the top Autumn release begins this weekend. That's right, the new editions of 'Medal of Honor' and 'Black Ops' will aim to brainwash the millions who will be watching the Champions League final between Chelsea and Bayern. The showpiece final itself will be shown to millions of people all over the world

CVG reports Quote: Black Ops 2 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter adverts will air during tomorrow's Champions League final. The Champions League will see two of football's titans, Bayern Munich and Chelsea, go head to head and will be shown on ITV1 and Sky Sports from at 7.45pm. Warfighter will get its TV premiere during half-time, at around 8.30pm in the UK. It isn't known when the Black Ops 2 trailer will be shown, but it's likely to be in the same ad break.

The Yearly No Final Fantasy VII Remake News

Its that time of the year again when the inevitable sad news hits Final Fantasy VII fans. Yes Square Enix has come forward and stated that new Final Fantasy titles “take precedence” over a remake of the much-loved classic.

Booo.... It seems ages since a tech demo for the PlayStation 3 showed Cloud, Aerith and the bustling streets of Midgar in High Definition. Seems funny that they have time to remake Final Fantasy X(nothing to do with the easy coding).



Quote: IGN: In an interview in Japanese magazine Famitsu (translated by Gemsatsu) Character Designer Tetsuya Nomura said, “There are a lot of people who want a remake of Final Fantasy VII. However, new titles take precedence. We work our hardest to make something that might be even better than Final Fantasy VII. The new Final Fantasy must overcome the Final Fantasy of the past.”

The same man above has also expressed his belief that series producer Yoshinori Kitase is the future of the Final Fantasy series, and urged fans to trust the direction he takes it in. if the last two Final Fantasies are to go by then it's going to be a bumpy road.

FIFA 13 Details Revealed

It's that time of the year when we all start getting excited over the annual FIFA release and what it has to hold. This year they have promised even more ''innovations''.

Via the EASPORTSFIFA twitter page they have promised 5 new innovations.

These are:

Attacking Intelligence, Complete Dribbling, FIFA 13 1st Touch Control, 2nd gen Player Impact Engine and FIFA 13 Tactical Free Kicks.

• Attacking Intelligence: Attacking players can analyse plays and take up better positions, making intelligent runs off-the-ball.


• Complete Dribbling: Players utilise precise dribble touches with true 360° mobility with the ball while facing a defender.


• 1st Touch Control: Eliminates near-perfect control for every player by creating uncertainty when receiving difficult balls.


• Player Impact Engine: 2nd gen of award-winning physics engine. Expands physical play from just collisions to off-the-ball battles.


• Tactical Free Kicks: Position up to 3 attacking players over the ball. Dummy runs, more passing options and elaborate free kicks.

BBC Sports App Coming To PS3

This summer is a summer of sport and unfortunately for us gamers that means more time away from our PS3s... or does it? Knowing that we can't be away from beloved games machines for too long, The Beeb are launching their BBC Sports app for the PS3 this summer just in time for Wimbledon.

Don't think that'll be all tennis though. The F1 is covered, so is the Olympics, but it'll probably miss that small football tournament in Europe that happens every four years, as the latter isn't mentioned explicitly.

So to give an idea of what'll be on offer during the Olympics alone there will be up to 24 live HD streams with about 2500 hours of content. If watching people run, jump and throw things isn't your thing then you'll also be able to watch the F1 and Wimbledon with your own choice of camera angle (No, Upskirt during Sharapova v Ivanović won't be an option).

As you might have guessed the service will be free and only available in the UK.

New Family Guy Game Listed

A game called Family Guy: Back to the Multiverse has been leaked by Amazon and will see it launched on September 25 for the PS3 and 360.

Judging by the games cover Activision is the company deemed fit to try to make amends for the PS2 version which was a let down to all involved. I personally love the show so will keep a close eye on this.

GAME Group Latest: OpCapita Buys GAME For £1

Comet owner OpCapita has reportedly bought GAME for a solitary £1. Both The Telegraph and BBC are reporting the news that UK side of the business will move into possession of OpCapita as early as this coming morning. The official announcement is due soon.

The remaining 333 stores will remain open and the £85 million debt will be picked up by OpCapita, moving the business out of administration. This news comes as a possible deal headed up by RBS has broken down due to complications over the terms laid out by the 6 bank consortium, which incidentally handles the GAME Group's debts.

The other parts of the company's business are still currently under negotiation, with US retailer GameStop interested in the Iberian set of stores.

GAME Group Latest: Websites Back Online

The GAME Group have just announced that their websites Game.co.uk and Gamestation.co.uk have resumed trading once again. To celebrate they have resumed their "Spring Clean" sale, which judging by the items and prices in the offer is a bit of a misnomer.

The struggling business, which at the time of writing is still looking for a buyer, has constantly been in the gaming headlines for all the wrong reasons. This looks set to continue with the backlash in the comments of all major gaming sites over the prices in their sale.

There also a number of games on offer in the pre-owned section, with even a 3 for 2 offer running on selected pre-owned titles, but the vast majority are more expensive than buying new copies from other retailers.

Yesterday administrators announced the resumption of the Reward Card scheme and that OpCapita had also entered a bid to purchase the business.

GAME Reward Cards Active Again...

...but only to redeem on pre-owned games. The administrators in charge of trying to find a buyer for the struggling company have decided to allow the use of the Reward Card scheme to restart, but with redemption only against pre-owned games for the time being. You still can earn points on all purchases however, new or old.

GAME relayed the message through twitter:

"Your Reward Cards have now been reactivated by the Administrators for redemption against pre-owned stock," read the first message.

"This means that points can be earned on all products AND redeemed against pre-owned items as of now," said the latest.

Earlier in the day rumours were flying around that RBS, GAME's money lender were looking to purchase part of the company, no doubt to make a tidy bit of profit on it. A little while later OpCapita, parent company to retailer Comet, put in a revised bid after it was previously blocked by the six banks that have a stake in the company, which is headed up by the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Some shady dealings are afoot no doubt, but what will it mean for the remaining 211 GAME and 122 Gamestation stores? Only time will tell...

UPDATE: Moments after this article was published news from MCV has given the impression that the consortium of banks led by RBS are the most likely to win the race to own GAME Group. The company could exit administration as early as tomorrow (Friday 30th March). Questions will be asked of RBS who are rejecting a bid from OpCapita that would have safeguarded the current workforce in favour of their own bid, which may lead to further downsizing. More news as we get it.

FIFA Euro 2012 Digital-Only Expansion

In what must be one of the signs of the apocalypse EA have announced today that the tie-in for the FIFA Euro 2012 competition will be a Digital-Only expansion pack. Instead of the regular full priced standalone game, owners of FIFA 12 will be able to download the pack from April 24 in the US and Europe and April 25 elsewhere.

The expansion will feature all 53 countries who took part in the qualifying tournament, the 8 stadiums used in Ukraine and Poland, a new exclusive "Expedition" mode and number of live challenges over the course of the competition.
